Public charity
A public charity is an organization that primarily gives grants and receives support from the public. This means that public charities often receive funding from several sources, such as individuals, private foundations, and government agencies. A public charity can also earn money for certain charitable services, such as cleaning public places or holding charitable events. Public charities can include institutions such as hospitals, churches, and organizations that provide financial donations or other services to their community.

Private foundation
A private foundation is a charitable organization run by an individual, family or corporation. Private foundations typically receive financial support from sources such as the family of the foundation’s owners, the corporation that manages the foundation, or other private sources that make donations to support the foundation’s activities. As a private foundation usually receives funding, it is obliged to pay out a certain percentage of its income in the form of grants and charitable activities. There are three types of private foundations: independent, family and corporate.

Public foundation
A community foundation is a charitable foundation that focuses on providing grants for programs in a particular community. This may include funding after-school programs, educational programs at community centers, and activities that promote concepts that benefit society as a whole, such as health care or environmental sustainability. Community foundations may also offer support through grants such as scholarships, charitable circles, or programs that allocate funds to families or organizations in the community that need financial support.

Corporate foundation
A corporate foundation or company-sponsored foundation is a charitable organization founded and funded by a corporation. Because they receive funding from the corporation that runs them, corporate foundations typically have a wide range of philanthropic opportunities and often create initiatives that help them distribute funds to communities or programs in need. Corporate foundations also often donate to causes related to their industry to support employees in that field. Another way in which corporate foundations engage in philanthropy is through participation in corporate giving programs that provide grants and donations to other charitable organizations.

Independent foundation
An independent foundation is a type of private foundation that usually receives funding from a single source. This source may be an individual or group that donates charitable funds to the foundation to finance its charitable initiatives. Because independent foundations have stable funding from a single source, they typically do not engage in fundraising or other forms of seeking public support. Many independent foundations begin as family foundations or corporate foundations and transition to operating as an independent foundation after several years of operation.

Grantmaking foundation
A grantmaking foundation is a charitable organization that functions as a public foundation and is engaged in organizing and distributing grants. Grant-making foundations can sometimes also act as public charities, as they can provide support to NGOs and communities and receive their funding from fundraising and public events. The main purpose of a grant-making foundation is to create grants that they can give to members or groups in the community that need financial support.

Supporting organization
A supporting organization is a type of community foundation that provides support to another charitable organization or foundation. When a supporting organization joins another organization by partnering with it or offering support to it, the supporting organization acquires the status of a public charity regardless of which organization it contributes to. This means that the auxiliary can operate in many public sectors and serve a wide range of foundations and communities, as long as their support complies with legal regulations.

Arts foundation
An arts foundation is a charitable organization that supports the arts. It can be actors, musicians, painters and anyone who makes a living from the arts or performs. While many arts foundations are privately funded by donors, there are also public arts foundations that raise funds and act as public foundations. Arts foundations support artists by providing grants and scholarships that can fund art projects and performances.
