In preparation for the winter season, the Warming Center depends on the assistance of volunteers throughout the community to help staff and operate the shelters. Shelter/s will open between November 15 and March 31 on nights when temperatures drop to 28 degrees or below. The shelter open for guests at 7:00pm and close at 8:00am the following morning. Volunteer teams are organized into three different seperate shifts between the hours of 5:00pm to 9:00am when to set up the shelter, provide supervision and oversite during operation and to clean up afterward.
Our goal is to:
Compile a database of willing volunteers
Provide basic orientation and training
Organize various sites and volunteers into "on-call" service teams
Mobilize service teams into action when temperatures reach 28 degrees or below
